Choosing a therapist is a bit like choosing a medication, in that there is often an element of trial and error. I believe that the most important ingredient in therapy is the quality of the relationship between the client and the therapist. Ideally, the therapeutic alliance is based on a collaborative effort to reach mutually agreed-upon goals. The therapist is not “boss”; rather, he or she is a professional person hired by the client to help accomplish the objectives of the client – or at times, to help figure out what those objectives are. If that sounds like what you are looking for, then consider contacting someone who is on the same page as you.
In addition to providing individual therapy, I am also available as a public speaker regarding such topics as: causes and treatment of depression; understanding human behavior; and maintaining “reasonable happiness.”
